About the Office for Racing
Established in 2002 the Office for Racing is a business unit within the Attorney-General's Department (AGD). Its role is to provide developmental support to the racing industry through the following functions:
- we provide high level and timely advice to Government and the Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing on the development of racing industry policies, programs and major events
- we research and monitor trends in the racing industry both within Australia and overseas for the timely uptake of new and emerging opportunities
- we provide effective communication and continually consult and liaise with key stakeholder groups, peak bodies, relevant business sectors and Commonwealth, State and Interstate Government agencies on issues affecting the racing industry in South Australia.
- we assist in ensuring the State's legislative framework allows the racing industry to operate in a way that leads to public confidence in the racing industry.
- we work with the Department of Treasury and Finance in providing advice to the Minister for Gambling on wagering issues.
While the Independent Gambling Authority, and the Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner, continue to undertake the regulatory and compliance aspects of the Government's legislative framework, the Office for Racing provides broader developmental support to the racing industry in addition to an advisory role to Government.
Further information about the Office's objectives can be obtained from our Strategic Plan. which is located in the Reports section of this website.
